Chemistry department is the largest and one of the oldest deparment in Kirti College. It came into existence in 1954 in the year of college establishment. Chemistry Department offers B.Sc.,M. Sc. in organic Chemistry by Papers M.Sc. in Chemistry (by Research) and Ph.D. in Chemistry programmes. The department has well equiped spacious laboratories and also a departmental library with text books as well as a good number of reference books to which students have easy access. Our faculty members have done exemplary research work, have successfully completed various projects funded by UGC and University of Mumbai.Four of our faculty members are research guides and a number of students have completed M.Sc. and Ph.D. under their guidance. Every year department organises intercollegiate Chemistry festival Chem-o-Joy for enhancement of chemistry subject and its applications. It also develops good peer interaction, Leadership Quality and Event Management Ability.

For students
- Guest lectures : Every year the department organizes a session for students with an expert/industry veteran to provide them with an overview of career options and counseling..
- Parent teacher Meeting : Every year a parents teachers meeting is conducted to provide feedback on students’ performance and discuss concerns, if any.
- Intercollegiate Chemistry Festival : Chem-o-Joy is organised every year by the students and staff of chemistry department. Chem Quiz, Chemistry Models, Seminar and Posters’ Presentations, ChemHousie are Treasure Hunt some of the activities of Chem-o-joy
- Educational Visits : The department arranges visits to educational institutes /research laboratories or chemical and pharmaceutical industries.
- Workshops for students: Soap and detergent making workshop; shampoo making, phenyl making workshops are arranged by the department
- Over the years, our students are encouraged to participate in inter collegiate workshops/seminars.
- Alumni Meet it was coducted virtually on 17 th April 2021

- Botany students Vaibhavi Pawar topper in T.Y.B.Sc in Kirti College Science Stream Secured 94% (2017-18)
- Remarkable result of T.Y.B.Sc. students ranging from 70-100% in last five years.
- Intercollegiate Bottle garden & Flower arrangement competitions at Rizvi college on 10th August 2017. Madan Battula & Ayesha Khan participated in preparation of Bottle garden competition. Vaibhavi Pawar & Komal Patil participated in Flower arrangement competition.
- Students participation in intercollegiate like Flower arrangement competition winner Aarti Arde , Poster painting, Bottle garden, Eco- Rangoli etc. Students secured many more prizes.
Felicitation
- Vidnyanvari project conducted by Marathi Vidnyan Parishad, under this project College students selected named Aarti Arde,Shmila Desai,Mital Mohite,Pranay Mane,Rahul Sagar trained to conduct lecture in BMC School for Std.7th& 8th and all these students conducted lecture and demonstrations in various BMC School for Std.7th & 8th.
- Research motivation to students -Nishant Sarmalkar with prof.Mr. Surendra Ramesh Sawardekar presented paper on ‘Analysis of Sulphates Estimation of Water Sample from the Wetlands of Maharashtra Nature Park’14th Annual National Conference on Wetlands and Biodiversity on 1st Feb.2020.D.G. Ruparel College, Matunga.
