Bio-Tech

  • The three-year undergraduate (B.Sc.) programme in Biotechnology launched in 2014, marking the department’s establishment. Biotechnology, by definition, is technology based on biology. It uses cellular and biomolecular processes to create products and technologies that enhance both our quality of life and the health of our planet.
  • Our lives now revolve around Biotechnology, which has enormous promise moving forward. The department is in its eighth successful year of academic delivery with upgrades and successes, realising the need of the hour. All of our efforts have paid off, as many of our alumni excel in their fields both in India and overseas.
  • There are currently 8 employees working in the department. The department’s teaching approaches are intended to promote the emergence of analytical skills that lead to creativity and innovation. The department worked diligently to offer all students a nurturing environment so that they can develop into the strongest human resources who would contribute to both the community and themselves. For their inclusion in interdisciplinary research projects at the University of Mumbai’s Avishkar research festival, students are supported and motivated.
  • The department has a lab that is well-equipped with resources for microbiology techniques and contemporary equipment including a microwave, microscope, a vertical laminar air flow cabinet, an incubator, centrifuges, gel visualizers, and electrophoresis apparatus, among many other things. Microorganism strains in the department are used by students in their routine circular experiment activities.
  • By organizing guest lectures, internal dissertation projects for research, field excursions, industrial visits, seminars, audio visual tutorials, etc., the students are encouraged to pursue a science education. Through its Social Outreach initiatives, the department also makes sure that students have a high level of empathy.
  • We provide a three-year undergraduate biotechnology programme through the University of Mumbai. After passing the biology-related Higher Secondary School exams, students are admitted. For students specifically, supportive workshops, bridge courses, contests, and practical training programmes are offered in relation to their graduation path.
  • High-demand topics covered by the course include Cell biology, Ecology, Biostatistics, Life science, Plant physiology, Biochemistry, Anatomy, Immunology, Industrial biotechnology, Molecular biology, Cytogenetics, Microbiology, Biotechnology, and Bioinformatics, among many others. Biosafety and Agri Biotechnology, together with practicals and relevant project work and assignments, makes up the final year’s applied component.
