- Bali-butta: A Step to Self-reliance through Skill Development
Women empowerment is a buzzword today. A highly skilled staff member, passionate about the art of fashion design decided to instill the wish to be an entrepreneur in female students. Inspired by the encouragement and support of senior authorities, she embarked on a mission to cultivate the talents of like-minded female students, fostering an environment of creativity and skill development. Through her relentless dedication and guidance, these enterprising young women honed their abilities, ultimately achieving remarkable success.
Most of the students involved are from the junior college, while degree college students are offered a specialized co-curricular course in Fashion Designing, worth two academic credits. Over the span of four years, this dynamic group of students actively participated in six exhibition-cum-sale events, both within and beyond the college. Initially, the endeavor was purely non-profit, with the sole aim of nurturing skills in fabric painting, hand embroidery, costume design, designer file folders, tote bags, traditional hand-purses, and other handcrafted creations.
However, the overwhelming success and the recognition garnered by their work inspired the students to elevate their initiative into a recognized brand, aptly named Bali-Butta. Under the capable leadership of Prof. Anjali Hadkar, the students are now striving to formalize their brand by registering it, opening a bank account, and applying for government subsidies. Their aspirations are not just to enhance their skills but to forge a path toward economic independence, self-reliance, and empowerment, as they scale new heights in the world of fashion entrepreneurship.
